New York-based entrepreneur Jeff Ng, better known to fans around the world as jeffstaple, arrived in Honolulu last week to kick off his partnership with local brain trust Interisland Terminal.

Reed Space HNL is fashioned after his New York retail store, Reed Space, and aims to elevate the level of awareness and increase discussion about the bookstore experience and its influences on island culture and the creativity of its residents.

As the folks from Interisland Terminal said in a release about the pop-up bookstore’s opening:

The inspiration behind Reed Space HNL is our desire to see a return of independent bookshops in Honolulu featuring thoughtfully selected titles to nurture the intellect and creative capital of this community. Renowned graphic designer and brand developer jeffstaple will curate the bookstore’s selection of art, architecture and design books.

Last Wednesday, jeffstaple and the Interisland Terminal crew were on hand for an opening reception at the Waikiki Parc Hotel that featured pupu by next-door neighbors Nobu Waikiki and cocktails made with Tuaca. Honolulu Star-Advertiser staff photographer FL Morris was there to capture the action.
