Here’s a cool shot of an excited Sammy Hagar taken during the second of two nights at Blaisdell Arena.

This concert was also the last date of the “Balance World Tour” in support of Van Halen’s 10th studio album, and was nicknamed “The Ambulance Tour” due to the fact that both Van Halen brothers wound up dealing with injuries.

It also marked the last time with Hagar on vocals before a nine-year past and a brief reunion.

Built in 1936, the 850-seat Queen Theater is located at 3588 Waialae Avenue and stopped showing movies in the 1970’s. From then on, it was instead used from time to time as a concert venue, complete with an incredible multi-level stage system.

This is a great image from Carlos Barientos III’s collection, capturing one of his bands live on stage at the historic venue.

This is a shot from the fourth in a series of annual outdoor festivals dubbed, “The Big Mele.” The first six were held at Kualoa Ranch before moving to the Turtle Bay Hilton in 1999 for one final event.
